A work in progress – a swimming pool mural

A new mural – Fire Trail

The mural is at the recently opened Meriton’s Macquarie Park Serviced Apartments in Talavera Road, North Ryde. Initially I reacted to the environment. Firstly the Bush setting, hence the choice of cool grey greens; the sky, which is invariably azure blue; the sun sparkling on the gum leaves which created and overall calm background, then accented the whole by adding a threat of fire with the flame reds and bright yellows. This time I began with vertical bands of colour representing the first level. Then, once the wall was completely activated, I deconstructed the lower level by adding a middle level of lozenges, each new colour complimenting its neighbour. Finally light was added in the form of golden and pale yellows; after which I emphasised areas with a hint of heat with the addition of yellows, oranges and reds. Baring in mind the Lane Cove National park location I think I’ll call it “Fire Trail.”
